How To Beat Boredom

With the constant power cuts, boredom is always just the flip of a switch away.

Boredom is the symptom of the conditioned and closed mind. If you are bored, you’re doing yourself a tremendous disservice. Open your mind, break free from your conditioned routine, and reignite the flames of excitement and discovery.

How You Can Beat Boredom

Whether you’re bored at work or at home, here are a few things you can do to fight the boredom:

Take a Walk

Walking is a great way to fight boredom, get some fresh air, clear your mind AND get some exercise.

Take a walk around your neighbourhood or drive to a place where you can take a long walk while enjoying the beautiful scenery.

I will always advocate for reading. It’s one of my favourite past times.

I don’t read as much anymore but I still get some reading in when I can. Reading is a wonderful way to destress, especially if you love fiction because you can get lost in a new world.

Listen to a Podcast

I’m a huge Crime Junkie fan and that’s my go-to podcast.

If you’re a true-crime fan, like me, then you should check it out.

Lately, though, I’ve been enjoying The Goal Digger Podcast. I find it extremely motivational and uplifting. This particular podcast is perfect for women, especially working moms. It’s filled with tips and advice to help women in business thrive, achieve their goals and be super successful while still living full lives.

Podcasts are a great way to boost creativity and fight boredom. I love listening to them when doing mundane tasks like tidying up, cleaning or driving. I even listen during downtimes at work.

With so many podcasts to choose from, you will never be bored again.

Journaling is amazing because it allows us to sort out our innermost thoughts and it’s a good way to identify hats working and what’s not in our lives.

Try taking a few minutes to sit and journal about whatever is on your mind. Maybe you want to make plans, or just write down a few of your thoughts, plans and ideas.

Journaling can be whatever you want it to be. I make use of journal prompts to help me with daily journaling practice.

Daily journaling has had such a positive effect on my life and I highly recommended you start journaling today.

Complete a Crossword Puzzle

Completing crossword puzzles is both fun and challenging and with load shedding being a constant in our lives, crosswords are a good go-to because you can do them without electricity. You can find crosswords to complete in magazines and newspapers or find a Crossword app on your phone (never seen one but I’m sure it exists).

Tidy Up

Sometimes we’re in a rush and want to get things done as quickly as possible and leave a mess in our wake. Now that you have nothing to do, it’s a great time to clean up your space.

Sort out that pile of laundry you’ve been avoiding all week, put everything back in its rightful place and tidy up.

Call A Friend & Catch Up

This is one of my faves.

We tend to get so caught up in what’s going on in our own lives before we know it, it’s been weeks or months since we last checked up on some friends, especially the ones who live far.

Use this time to call up your friends and check on them.

Create a Vision Board

It’s time to let the creative side of you shine!

Since you gave nothing much to do right now, why not grab some old magazines and project paper and create a nice vision board for yourself?

A Vision board is a visual representation of all the hopes and dreams you have for your life. It’s great when you hang it somewhere you’ll see it daily to remind you of what you’re working towards to help you reach your goals.

What are you waiting for? Grab some supplies and get started on your vision board.

Review Your Goals

Goal reviews are important if you actually want to achieve your goals.

When you feel there’s nothing for you to do, pull up the goals you’ve written down, go through them and see evaluate how well or how badly you’re doing. You’ll be able to identify gaps in your goal attainment plan and be able to restructure your life and daily activities to help you get closer to and achieve your goals.

It’s easy to fall off the wagon and this will help you get back on track.
