Hello my lovely people and welcome back to the blog!

So glad you could join me for a new installment of Creative Corner where we get to chat with fresh-faced creatives from all over and hear a little about them and their craft.

Our first Creative Corner guest this year is All That Is Eccentric author, Lihle.

Lihle is a South African blogger, digital content creator, freelance content writer and proud mama. She started out as a personal fashion blogger on the social networking site Tumblr.

The word “authentic” sums up her content.

Read on and find out more about All That Is Eccentric and the creative behind it, Lihle.

Lihle – All That Is Eccentric blog author

When and why did you start blogging?

My blogging journey began in 2015.

I was a med student at the time, and in spite of the insane amount of work and studying I was drowning in I was in desperate need for an outlet to express my creativity on. I was in the Computer Lab one morning, scrolling through my favourite Tumblr fashion blogs (as one does) and thought to myself: “you know what, I could do this too”.

So I took the plunge, created my Blogger account that very day and I have been creating content ever since.

What was the inspiration behind the title of your blog?

The name “All That Is Eccentric” was inspired by what I thought described my fashion sense at the time. It was early varsity and I was really coming into my own fashion-wise.

My taste always felt a little different to that of my friends and peers. I’d frequently get comments on how “unique” and “different” my style was. Seeing as my blog started out as a personal fashion blog I figured the title of my blog should reflect my style.

It’s been 6 years since and I guess the name stuck, despite making the switch from fashion to lifestyle blogging.

What are your blogging goals for the year?

I really just want to go back to consistently creating quality content that I can be proud of. Becoming a social media micro-influencer has warped content creation for me, in that my focus shifted from creating content for myself and my online community to creating content for  likes, followers, higher engagement, etc.

It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the numbers (because they boost your chances of monetising your platforms) but I’m over it now.

This year I am prioritising creating useful, impactful, engaging content for myself and my audience over anything else.

Which post is your most popular and why do you think it did better than the others?

My first blog post on the new site is my most popular blog post so far.

The blog post, titled “To New Beginnings”, dives into the three main reasons why I believed my previous attempts at blogging failed. Its honest, insightful and is the perfect read for new bloggers or those struggling to get their blogs off the ground.

How has your blogging journey been so far? Any highlights?

I have thoroughly enjoyed my blogging journey. I was looking for a creative outlet and blogging did not disappoint.

In these 6 years I have gained numerous skills and learned so much about blogging and the digital world in general. In so much that I have, more recently, been able to carry those skills into the working professional world.

There are no particular highlights that stand out for me, although I was very proud to launch the brand new All That Is Eccentric site at the end of 2021.

What do you find the most challenging about blogging?

Consistency.

This is something that I battle with outside of blogging too, but it impacts my blogging the most. I believe that I would be a lot further if I was releasing and publishing content at a more consistent rate.

Its definitely something I need to work on because it’s so important for your blog, your readership and you, as a creator.

What other creative interests do you have?

As a digital content creator I get to tap into a lot of my other creative interests: photography, videography (albeit amateur videography), editing, basic graphic design and content curation. Outside of that I enjoy home interior décor, creative writing and I also sing (a little).

Best piece of blogging advice you’ve ever received

Just start!

People are very apprehensive to begin their blogging journey. Maybe they have no idea where to begin or they’re intimidated by the amount of work that needs to go into it or they feel that the blogging space is dead and there is no future in it. So they give up before they’ve even started.

Don’t do that to yourself, especially if it’s something you really see yourself doing.

Find your niche. Choose your blog name. Sign up to a web hosting platform. And you’re in! The rest you’ll figure out as you go along.

Just start.
