Why You Should Ditch The Car & Walk – The Amazing Benefits of Walking

Welcome! If you’re here, that means you’re looking for reasons to ditch your car and walk…

Walking is one of the best forms of exercise there is. So today, I’m here to convince YOU why you need to ditch your vehicle and take your natural modes of transport out for a spin.

FYI – today, I burned an awesome 329 calories just going to the shop and back without doing anything extra.

I feel great!

That’s just one of the reasons why you should ditch the car and walk.
Before I babble too much,

Here are a few more reasons to make walking a regular thing:

For sexy, lean legs

Waling tones your quads, hamstrings, glutes and calf muscles making your legs look super sexy and lean.

For walking to have this effect on your legs, you need to make sure you are targeting those muscles while you walk.

Walking is relaxing

If you’re feeling stressed out or just need a break, taking a walk is ideal for that. Go enjoy the scenery, take a walk around the block or if you need a few items and the grocery store isn’t too far away, walk to the local grocer.

You’ll come back feeling so relaxed and your stress will have just melted away.

Good for the environment as it reduces your carbon footprint

Your carbon footprint refers to the amount of carbon dioxide you release into the atmosphere i.e your contribution to the world’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

Carbon dioxide causes global warming which you all know is a huge environmental issue for many reasons such as the melting of polar ice caps which is detrimental as it affects temperatures, raises sea levels, damages crops leading to food shortages among other things which are all bad.

By walking instead of driving, you decrease your CO2 emissions.

Good for your heart

Your heart is your most vital organ.

It’s always hard at work keeping you alive, every second of every day, so you see why it’s important to keep it fit and healthy.

People who walk more lower their risks of getting heart disease.

It leads to increased productivity

One of the best reasons for you to walk more often is that it will lead to increased productivity.

If ever you’re studying or doing a task that requires high concentration levels and want to increase your productivity, take a break and go for a young walk. You’ll see the difference in your ability to concentrate and get things done when you get back to it.

Good exercise for those who hate exercising

If you hate the thought of exercising and other fitness activities you can simply walk to keep fit.

Walking is a form of cardio exercise. It works larger muscles and pushes your heart (see point above) and lungs to work.

It’s a great exercise that’s less strenuous on your joints than running (especially good for people like me who have bad knees).

You can try brisk walking too but even just going for a long stroll is good.

Torches calories

Like I mentioned right at the beginning it burns loads of calories.

Depending on how you walk you’ll burn more calories. You will still burn loads of calories walking normally but if you really want a bit of a work out you can try brisk walking which is pretty much walking at a fast pace.

Walking to torch calories

Walking Prevents injury

Going for a walk is a great form of low impact exercise that’s gentle on your knees (well joints in general) yet quite effective.

Perfect for people like me who have knee pain resulting from scar tissue. I can still keep fit without straining my knee too much.
Those are just a few good reasons why you should start walking more often.

Challenge yourself this week to go for a walk, even if it’s during your lunch back every day as see how good it’ll make you feel. If you personally don’t feel good afterwards at least you’ll have reaped the health benefits.

Personally, after today’s walk, I’m going to try to walk a heck of a lot more often. I feel really good after walking to the shops.

Sure, my knee was throbbing when I started but that’s only because I have a legit knee problem but feeling rejuvenated afterwards made it totally worth it.

Whenever you’re feeling too lazy to do your usual full workout, just go for a walk instead.

By the way, have you tried the “10 000 Steps A Day Challenge”?

If you haven’t you should definitely give it a go. I recently got back to it for June, my birthday month, to try to lose some weight and stay fit; especially on days when my knee is acting up and I can’t follow my usual workout routine.

I hope that now you see that walking is indeed highly beneficial for you, why it’s better for you to ditch your car and walk or you’re at least considering doing it more often. Put your health first!
