Creative Corner: Alyssa Frayling – Famously Frayling

If you’re looking for both entertainment and inspiration, you’ve come to the right place! Welcome to my blog and welcome to the latest edition of the Creative Corner.

Creative Corner is a segment on the blog where we “sit down” and get to know some pretty cool content creators who are absolutely killing it and love what they do.

Whether they are new to the game or have been at it for a while, we have something to learn from each and every one of them and today’s guest is no different.

If you’re particularly into travel then heads up, this bogger’s especially for you as she might teach you a thing or two about it.

Today’s guest is blogger Alyssa Frayling, author and owner of travel and lifestyle blog Famously Frayling.

Alyssa LOVES to travel and explore new cultures, loves meeting new people and as an American living in the UK, has been blessed with being able to connect with people from all over the globe.

She is always looking for new opportunities to explore while spending time with her family.

Let’s discover a little more about this globe trekker!

Alyssa Frayling of Famously Frayling

When and why did you start blogging?

I started a blog in April 2020 when I was quarantined at home. At first, I started my blog using a free site like Wix. I finally went self-hosted in October 2020 and have been working on growing my site since.

What was the inspiration behind the title of your blog, Famously Frayling?

Frayling is my surname and as a rather rare name, we decided to use it. I liked the idea of using alliteration because it flows easily and that s how I came up with Famously Frayling.

What do you find most challenging about blogging?

The most challenging thing about blogging is figuring out which techniques work best for you. There are so many successful bloggers out there, which is great but everyone publishes posts on what worked for them. Times have changed, so what worked for some people 5-10 years ago, doesn’t necessarily work now.

How do you come up with fresh ideas for your blog content?

I have written down over 300+ ideas for blog posts and I choose things off of this list.

Whenever I have a new idea, I make sure to write it down. I am notorious for thinking of a great idea and then forgetting it almost immediately, so it is important to always write down your thoughts.

When doing research for blog content, I always try and see what is trending around the world and what is being searched for online at the moment. For instance, we are in the process of coming out of lockdown in the UK and people are searching for ideas to travel to later this year. So I take this opportunity to write about places people will be able to travel to and what countries will still be restricting people.

What are your travel essentials?

My travel essentials are constantly changing depending on the destination. As a blogger, my non-negotiables are always my phone and laptop.

How do you afford to travel?

We haven’t been able to travel for the last year because of COVD-19. Along with the blog, we also work full time and that gives us the chance to save up our money to travel. There are many ways to travel on a budget and we have some posts about this to help our readers.

Which of the places you’ve travelled to was your favourite and why?

When I was a young teenager, I had the chance to go to Belize on a mission trip. It was such an amazing opportunity and I would love to go back again. Not only did we get to help the Belizian people but we got to experience the Mayan ruins and a day of fun snorkelling the beautiful reefs.

As an adult and since I have started my blog, one of my favourite places is Dartmoor National Park in Devon, England. It is so beautiful and our family’s favourite place to visit.

Which social media platform has contributed the most to your blog growth and what’s the best way to use that platform?

Social media is a tricky thing and it doesn’t always work for people.

We have Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. Our Twitter has the greatest amount of followers and it is the easiest to use.

I know people that swear by using social media, but others swear by not using it for growth but as a connection to your readers in other ways.

Any advice you’d like to give to new and aspiring bloggers?

The biggest piece of advice that I can give to new and aspiring bloggers is to go self-hosted right away if you are wanting to make money from your blog. You can check out our resources page to see what we have used in order to be successful.

Lastly, why should we subscribe to your blog?

If you have a love for travel and family then we are the blog for you.

As a young couple exploring the newlywed lifestyle and branching into family life; we are able to connect with many types of people. Our blog focuses on travel as a whole and we are constantly creating content to help and inspire our readers.

We have an amazing FREE Packing Checklist for our new subscribers.

And that’s a wrap!
