What does your bedtime routine look like?
They say that how you wind down at the end of the day is just as important as how you start your day…
According to Running Magazine, a bedtime routine is important even for grown folks because it increases sleep duration as well as sleep quality.
Read on to hear what you should be doing every night before you call it a day and catch some zzzzz…
Things To Do Nightly Before Bed
These are a few things that I would suggest you add to your nighttime routine:
Disconnect
Put away all electronics. That includes your phone, laptop etc. and stay off of social media.
Now is the time to unwind and switch off.
Wash your face & brush your teeth
Practising good hygiene is what will keep you looking good and improve your overall health.
We eat throughout the day and sometimes food gets stuck between our teeth which will cause bad breath and may lead to infections.
Before going to bed each night you should brush your teeth for 2 minutes and floss to get rid of all the gunk between your teeth that your toothbrush can’t reach.
If you smell the gunk that gets left on the floss you’ll be so disgusted you won’t forget to floss ever again!
To get healthy, glowing and clean skin, always remember to remove your makeup before you hit the sack. I like to do it first thing when I get home because I get lazy the later it gets.
Change your panty liner/pad
If you wear a panty liner during the day then you should change it before bed. Do not sleep with the same panty liner that you wore the whole day.
Wearing a panty liner for too long may put you at risk of yeast infection and nobody wants that!
Before you go to bed, put on a fresh pad if you’re on your period.

Read
Reading is a great way to relax and unwind and what better time to do this than before you hit the sack?
Many people are busy throughout the day so right before bed is a great time to get in some light reading.
Journal – Reflect on the day
Do you journal? If not then I suggest you start.
I like to journal and reflect on my day right before I go to bed.
Reflection is a great way to track your progress and what better time to do it than before you call it a day. Reflecting will help you identify areas where you did well and where you need to improve whether it be how you responded to a certain situation or how you reacted towards someone leading to self-improvement.
Write down your thoughts, feelings and ideas and try to empty your thoughts (especially the troubling ones) into your journal to help release before you go to sleep.
Plan for tomorrow
Make a list of the things you need to get done tomorrow, I personally make a checklist on my phone.
“Failing to plan is planning to fail”, that’s what my teacher used to say.
Look at all your appointments for tomorrow and mentally plan how you will go about fulfilling your commitments for that day.
Drink some tea
Tea can be great to soothe and relax you before bed but just be sure that you choose the right tea and the right tea would be chamomile because it aids in sleep.
Green tea is also a good choice as it reduces cancer risk, improves cardiovascular heath helps burn fat and aids weight loss ( I personally just think it tastes like garbage but I drink it anyway for the benefits).
Pray/meditate
Whether you’re religious or more spiritual I think that it’s important to connect with the inner you before you go to bed as this also helps you to wind down at the end of a long day.
It is said that meditation aids in getting better sleep as it helps one to relax and quiet the mind. Meditation helps one achieve overall calmness which makes it easier to fall asleep.
These are just a few things you could add to your evening routine to help you get better sleep.
In conclusion, getting good quality sleep is vital to living a happy and healthy life.
Again I ask, what does your bedtime routine look like? Which of these will you be adding to your bedtime routine?
these are great reminders to keep a proper night routine. i especially love the tip on turning off your phone and disconnect before sleep. the blue light from our phones really prevents us from falling asleep.
Thanks for leaving your thoughts. 🤗
