Creative Corner: Brittani – Have A Seat

Welcome my lovely readers! So good to have you hear.

Thanks for joining us for a new edition of Creative Corner.

Today’s guest is blogger Brittani, creator of the blog Have A Seat; whose mission is to equip and encourage women to thrive in Christ, life and fearlessly engage the church and the world.

Brittani of Have A Seat blog

Please introduce yourself:

My name is Britani and I am a lover of God and people; a writer with a gift to encourage others; and always on a mission to make people feel seen, heard, and valued. Currently I enjoy working in administration at a charter school, but my dream job is to be a well-known and unforgettable writer, author, and speaker!

Where do you draw inspiration from?

I draw inspiration from my experiences, observations, conversations with other people, and my relationship with God.

What are your must have tools or items while writing?

I must have my Galaxy Tab S7 tablet and keyboard (or my work laptop if I don’t have my tablet), alternative R&B or lo-fi music to listen to; a Pilot G-2 .05 pen; my black Exceed journal (it’s a knockoff Moleskin), pink sticky notes, a neon pink sharpie, a few highlighters (pink, yellow, and blue), and either Earl Grey tea with oat creamer, an oatmilk chai latte, or water.

How long have you been writing and why do you love it?

I have been journaling since I was probably 7 or 8.

Even though I have always journaled for fun and wrote because I was good at it, my parents have always known I was a writer and have told me regularly and over the years that I need to write a book! I love writing because I feel like it’s one of the ultimate ways for me to express my thoughts, my creativity, and a great way to connect with people since I am a very relational person.

What are some of your interests outside writing?

Some of my interests outside of writing are: working out, meeting new people, daydreaming, going for walks with friends, exploring new places and restaurants, fighting the fear of failure of pitching to different publications, going to singles mixers, roller skating, listening to podcasts, and spending time with my friends and roommates.

I found you on Facebook. Has Facebook been beneficial to your writing and if so, how?

Yes, Facebook has been beneficial to my writing because it has allowed me to connect with people and share my thoughts and my blog posts. I will continue to utilize it as I begin to create more content.

What would you say is the most challenging aspect of writing?

Right now the most challenging aspect of writing is the editing process. I have been writing about so many different topics over the years and am very long-winder. So trying to edit and condense all of my thoughts into shorter blog posts is taking quite some time.

In your opinion, what makes a good writer?

Whether you like meeting new people and having deep conversations, reading about people, or daydreaming, I believe that there has to be a deep curiosity about people, their lives, and the world if you want to be a good writer.

What kind of books do you enjoy reading?

Sometimes people are surprised to find out that outside of reading and studying the Bible, I am not a huge book reader. The free time that I do have goes to writing and fleshing out the dozens of ideas I have and blog posts that I have already started. I do however, love reading articles and am looking into audiobooks since I also enjoy listening to podcasts.

Where can we find your work?

You can find my work on my blog, my Facebook page, and my Instagram!

Thank you Brittani for being such an amazing guest. It’s been a delight getting to know you and being introduced to your blog.
