Hey there and welcome to the blog.
I started a new hobby now so long ago and I LOVE it. I’m growing my own vegetables in the back yard!
It’s not as much work as I thought it would be and I find it really meditative. Oh and refresh vegetables are the tastiest.
My recent interest in gardening was parked by the rising food prices and my sensitive skin. I keep getting rashes so I figured I try to eat as organically as I could and the best way to do that is to grow the food myself. I know exactly what I put in the soil so I won’t consume anything that’s genetically modified (if the seeds are, well I can’t help that because I bought those from the nursery).
There’s just something so satisfying about seeing something you started come to fruition. I really feel like a proud mama when my seeds start sprouting…
I now spend my Saturday mornings planting, piling weeds and watering my veggies. It’s quite laborious taking care of the garden because I got overly excited and ended up with a huge garden patch that’s basically half of the backyard.
Those chickens I used to hate made the soil super rich and furtile, every cloud has its silver lining huh…
So far I have:
- Tomatoes
- Green pepper
- Spinach
- Chillies
- Onion
- Peas
Food has become quite pricey so I’ve decided that I will grow what I can myself. It takes quite a bit of patience but I figure it’ll be worth it in the end.
I’ve been using mostly rainwater to water my veggies collected in the Jojo tank outside to save on the water bill. I try to water my garden twice a day, at sunrise and sister, as advised by a friend who knows a heck of a lot more about farming vegetables than I do.
Anyway, I’m excited to eat more fresh produce from our own backyard.
