Monica – Conquering Motherhood blog author and her kids

When and why did you start blogging?

I started in May 2020, just after the first covid-19 lockdown here in New Zealand. I was still on maternity leave and looking at ways to be able to work from home so I could spend more time with the kids.

I found out you can actually earn money with affiliate marketing if you have a blog, so I decided to give it a go!

What is the inspiration behind the title of your blog?

Funny story … the blog was first called “Mum in the woods”. It was a play on words because when you are a mom you are never “out of the woods”. But I don’t think anybody was getting it lol plus it was not working well for SEO. So I changed it to “Conquering Motherhood”.

I like this idea that we are all “super-moms” in our own way and, with a bit of help, we can really “conquer” and enjoy the motherhood journey.

What are you hoping to accomplish with your blog?

I am hoping to earn a full-time income from it in a couple of years, all while helping expecting and new moms navigate the pregnancy and postpartum journey.

Who is your ideal reader?

Pregnant women, or new moms that have a little one (under a one-year-old)

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to blogging?

Getting SEO right! I feel like I am nailing Pinterest, but still struggling to get organic traffic from search engines.

Which tools and resources do you find most useful for blogging?

I honestly couldn’t live without Canva for all my pins or blog post banners. I even designed an ebook on cloth diapers with it.

Facebook groups for new bloggers have also been an invaluable resource: I learnt so much from the different communities, and the support I get is amazing.

Your favourite blog post and why:

Hypnobirthing 101 – I had an amazing and pain-free birth experience with my daughter, and I am so passionate about letting as many expecting moms as possible about hypnobirthing.
This is one of the first posts I ever published on the blog and I am so glad to see it’s getting so much traffic from Pinterest!

What piece of advice would you like to give to someone looking to start blogging?

If your goal is to monetize your blog, do your research first! And invest in a couple of good courses on Pinterest and SEO. I so wish I could go back and do things a bit differently in the first few months of blogging.

I feel like I wasted so much time writing posts that will never get much traffic. I knew nothing about SEO then and I only now realize how important it is.

Why should the readers subscribe to your blog?

I send monthly newsletters with updates on all my latest posts, plus I share deals and coupons perfect to save some money if you are an expecting or new mom.

I’d like to thank Monica for reaching out and joining me as a guest on my blog. I hope you guys have found a new blog to binge-read and follow.
