Why Spending Time Alone is Good

Hey friend.

Thanks for stopping by and welcome to my blog.

The topic of today’s Blogtober post is why spending time alone is good.

I’m a loner by nature so I spend heaps of time alone and I bask in it.

Sometimes you need to take a time out, take a step back and reevaluate your life, that’s just one of the reasons why spending time alone is good.

I’ll be elaborating more on the benefits of spending time alone and why you shouldn’t be afraid to be alone sometimes.

Why Spending Time Alone is Good

It gives you time to reflect

When you’re alone it gives you ample time to clearly reflect on where you are and where you’re going and all the things in your life that you feel you want to work on.

Reflection allows one to truly see what got them where they are and from that, you can devise strategies to get yourself to where you want to be.

Taking time for self-reflection is important because it allows us to untangle and sort through our life experiences and helps create meaning.

Eliminates distractions so you can concentrate on yourself

Distractions can be a hindrance to you trying to concentrate on yourself.

Sometimes you need to take a step back, maybe disappear from your friendship group for a bit so that you can concentrate on yourself, do what needs to be done and get your shit together.

This could be time for you to work hard on your goals or even to take a break and sort out your mental health.

You get to explore without pressure or judgement

When you’re alone you can try whatever you want to try (and fail) without any pressure or fear of judgement.

It’s so scary to try new things with an audience and when you’re alone there’s nobody to judge or critique. You can fuck up as many times as you need to until you get it right.

It’s the perfect time to try something new!

According to forbes.com spending time in solitude can:

Increase productivity

When you’re alone and can fully concentrate on the tasks at hand it can lead to a productivity increase.

You can get so much done when you eliminate distractions and having people around can be a HUGE distraction.

Sparks Creativity

I can personally attest to this as well as the point above.

Blog posts have just been pouring out of me since spending so much time alone while I was in Cape Town job hunting. I did so much writing, it’s crazy!

My creative juices just kept on flowing.

Last but not least, spending time alone can:

Keep You Out Of Trouble

Especially for young people!

There is so much shadiness going on out here. People out there doing drugs and getting involved in all sorts of crazy things.

When I say that being alone will keep you out of trouble, it’s because being alone, in my opinion, is better than running with the wrong crowd.

This is also why it’s important to have hobbies.

To sum it al up, spending time alone is actually quite healthy for you psychologically and there’s a huge difference between being alone and being lonely.

If you’re looking for excuses to spend time alone (not that you need any), I’ve given you plenty!

There are dozens of enjoyable activities that you can do solo. Or you could just enjoy the silence.

You don’t have to be constantly busy all the time. Rest and relaxation is good.

Go solo from time to time, it’s good for you!
