How To Blog Better

Welcome to the blog.

Blogging is fun and also a great deal of work, whether you’re doing it professionally or just for fun. You still gotta put your back into it.

Today, I’d like to share some tips and tricks I’ve picked up from around the web that has helped me to become a better blogger and hopefully they can do the same for you.

If you’re looking for some tips and tricks to make your blog better and stand out, keep reading.

How To Blog Better

As promised, here are a few tips and tricks on how to blog better to help you to become a better blogger:

Ask Your Audience – Do Surveys

Your readers are your target audience, why not ask them what it is that they would like to see on your blog or how you could improve their blogging experience?

You can ask your existing audience via your newsletter or polls on social media.

Thereafter use their feedback to make the necessary changes.

Be Inspired By Everything

Find inspiration from everything going on around you, it’ll help you to come up with fresh content.

I personally find inspiration from the books I read, movies, social media (people post things that get me thinking), TV shows and all the stuff that goes on around me.

When you’re truly inspired, you’ll create golden content.

Improve Your Writing & Language Skills

A blogger is essentially a writer so to become a better blogger you must up your writing game.

You can do this by writing more, taking a writing course (Skillshare has some good ones) and reading more.

Study different types of writing styles and see what you like or which one is more you then apply it (the style) to your blog article writing. The more you write, the better you’ll become at it, so try to write a little every day, even if you just journal your thoughts.

Stay Informed

The more you know, the more you have to write about and can write in-depth articles about.

Try to keep up with the latest news and developments in your niche.
Always knowing what’s going on around you will give you tons of content ideas.

Plan Your Content

This will help you not to get flustered and you’ll always know what you’re doing and when you’re doing it.

Planning your content in advance can help you to come up with relevant blog post topics to what’s going on at the time and keep your content relevant.

Look at your calendar and take note of important dates and events that you’d like to create content for and start drafting and scheduling your posts for those dates.

It’s also easier to write when you have an outline or idea of what you want to write about.

Content planning will help you to achieve my next point…

Be Consistent

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “Consistency is key” and it’s true!
Being consistent in your blogging is key to building your audience and keeping them constantly entertained with your great content.

Having a posting schedule will help you achieve consistency. For instance, I post once a week on Sunday evenings. I have other content that goes up randomly but my main blog posts go live every Sunday at 6 PM CAT.

One way you can achieve consistency is to pre-write your posts and schedule them to go live on your site, that way, wherever you are you know that your blogging schedule is taken care of and you don’t have to worry about being available to manually publish your content and your audience will always receive your fresh posts on time.

Learn From The Pros

Take a look at what the big pro bloggers are doing and apply that to your own blog.

The bigger bloggers who’ve been in the blogging game for a while have an abundance of tips and tricks to offer you to help you to reach their level. Some do this for free through their blog posts and others offer paid blogging courses or courses on different aspects such as SEO (something I’m still working on).

A few examples of bloggers that can teach you a thing or two are El Du Clos, Bournemouth Girl and Oh, She Blogs amongst others.

Looking at bloggers in your niche that are thriving and applying what they are doing right to your blog could help you improve your blogging (DO NOT COPY though).

Keep Updating Your Content

Updating your old content is important to keep it relevant and fresh. This is what I’ve been doing a lot lately.

Sometimes, there’s new information you might wanna add or information that you omitted before that could make your post better.

Pay Attention To Your Formatting

Use pictures and infographics to break up large blocks of text, make use of bullet points, make use of headings and sub-headings etc.
Formatting is important for your post’s readability, one of the things I picked up along my blogging journey.

World of Wanderlust said in their post that having a clean layout increases your page’s readability. You want people to actually stick around and read your post therefore readability is pretty important.

Know Your Audience

Your audience is who you’re writing for, therefore you should aim to please them and in order to do this, you must know them.

You can do this by studying your blog’s demographics. Take a look at who’s reading your content. What are their interests, where are they from, their gender, their age groups etc? This will give you information about what might interest them most and you can then centre your content around that.

Additionally, look at which of your posts they’ve responded to positively the most. Where did you get the most likes and comments?

Those are just a few helpful tips on how to blog better and in turn, up your blogging game! Applying these tips to your blog will help you to become the best blogger you can be!
