At the beginning of each year, many of us enthusiastically decide what we want to accomplish and set goals for ourselves.
We vow to work hard to reach said goals only to sadly end up falling short. Well, NOT THIS YEAR.
I’m here to share a few tips that I’ve picked up from here and there to help you, and me, out and help us to get closer to our hopes and dreams.
If you’re tired of constantly almost getting there then I suggest you read on.
How To Smash Your Goals This Year
Write Them Down
Once you decide what it is you’d like to accomplish, grab a pen and notebook and write them down.
This will also give you something to reflect back on and work as a reminder of what you’re trying to achieve.
Having your goals written down will also help to narrow your focus as well as help keep you motivated.
Writing your goals down in the form of a manifestation list is also a brilliant idea.
Make A Vision Board
A vision board is a visual representation of what you’re hoping to accomplish.
You could create one on Pinterest on create a physical board you can put up where you’ll see it daily using magazine cutouts of all the things that represent what you want your life to look like.
I need to recreate my own vision board as my collage got crumpled up and my goals have changed since I created it.
Come Up With A Game Plan
Now that you’ve identified your goals, it’s time to come up with a game plan to help you achieve them.
One of my goals is to achieve my dream body (I want a cheeky six-pack) so part of my plan is to work out a minimum of 4 days a week; which includes doing YouTube workout videos, one of my fave channels is Juice & Toya.
How are you going to go about obtaining your goal? What is your plan of action?
Get Yourself An Accountability Partner
Tell a close friend about your goals and ask them if they could be your accountability partner.
An accountability partner is just someone who can support you and you know, hold you accountable, on your journey to reach your goals. It helps if you can find a partner you have mutual goals with.
They can help you to stay on track and also keep you motivated when you feel like giving up.
You can read more about the importance of an accountability partner here.
Make a Few Sacrifices
In order to stay on track with your yearly goals, you’ll have to make a few sacrifices such as spending less time with friends, cutting down on bingeing your favourite series or spending less money – depending on what your goals are.
These sacrifices are required to help you to get closer to where you want to be.
Work On Them Consistently
We all know by now that
Consistency is key.
In order to be consistent, you’ll have to repeatedly do what’s necessary to get closer to your goals and stay on track.
Even on the days when you’re not in the mood, you need to get into the habit of pushing through and getting shit done.
Working on your goal consistently means, for example, studying for an hour every day or reading for an hour a day.
Set aside some time daily to dedicate towards working on your goals.
Break Them Up
I got this tip from listening to the Productivity With Ease podcast where the host was discussing how we don’t stick to our new year’s resolutions/ goals because looking at them as a year goal can seem overwhelming. This can cause us to lose steam and quit.
Breaking our goals up into smaller goals makes them easily attainable.
For example, if your goal (like mine) is to read 12 books this year, make a monthly goal of reading 1 book and by the end of the year, you’ll have attained your 12-book goal.
Good luck with smashing your goals. I know we can do it!
If you by any chance haven’t set any goals for yourself yet, it’s not too late. Decide what you want to accomplish and get started.
P.S don’t forget to get yourself an accountability partner.
Love this! Awesome perspective and super good tips! Time to revisit those intentions and goals! Thank you for sharing this just in time for Spring! 😀
Great tips! Very straight forward so it’s easy to know where to start! Thank you for sharing very helpful!
These are some great tips. Especially “work on them consistently”. I think people forget to work on their goals throughout the year and hence fail to accomplish them.
Thanks, Komal.
