How I Keep Busy During Unemployment

Who else lost their job and has been struggling with unemployment for a while? Well, then you know how important it is to keep busy during unemployment.

You know… to keep you sane…

If you’ve been following my blog then you know that your girl has been unemployed for a while now, over a year I think. I previously wrote about it staying positive during this time here and I’ve also spoken about how lonely it can get.

Today I’d like to share how I keep busy during unemployment.

It’s not easy waking up every day to the reality that you still don’t have a job and unfortunately, some people have it way worse than others.

How I Keep Busy During Unemployment

Here are a few things that I do with all of this spare time on my hands to keep myself busy:

Blogging

This is what I spend a majority of my time doing; especially since I made the decision to move my blog to WordPress and I couldn’t just import my blog, I have been manually moving my blog posts individually daily.

I love blogging and it’s one of the things in life that actually brings me joy and helped me to keep my mental health in check.

When I was l working full time, I never had nearly as much time as I do now to work on my blog. I make new pins for Pinterest every day now and I’m constantly promoting my tweets so my views are better than ever!

I write something new almost every day now and I’m enjoying it now more than ever too!

How I started Blogging

Job Hunting

I spend a great deal of time on job sites such as LinkedIn looking for work. It’s a tedious task but something I have to do so I do it… A LOT.
I just had an interview with a great company so I’m feeling positive I’ll have a new job pretty soon.

Reading

If you read my blog regularly, I’m sure you’ve noticed I mention reading quite often and that’s because I love it.

I try to read a minimum of 30 minutes a day but truthfully, some days I don’t read books at all. However, I read all the time and sometimes it’s blog posts and interesting articles I find around the web.

I have a great spot, with a view of Table Mountain, where I love to read in the mornings, coffee in hand.

Walking & Exercising

Exercising is a great way to keep the stress at bay and stay happy and healthy.

Since moving to Cape Town, I’ve started taking jogs along the beachfront in the mornings with my sister to help me stay in shape.

Other days, I do home workouts like I used to do at home via YouTube. I’d highly recommend you try doing some of Mr & Mrs Muscle’s workout routines, I enjoy them!

I try to exercise or at least walk daily as part of my quest to live a healthy and active lifestyle.

A girl is tired of being sickly and I noticed that all the times I’ve been sick is when I’ve taken long breaks from doing physical activity, so no more of that!

I’ve started laying Pokemon Go again as an excuse to get out of the house, take a long walk and get some fresh air.

Also been doing the Chloe Ting 2 Week Shred with a friend and it’s so much fun!

Hanging Out With Friends

So blessed to have such understanding and supportive friends during this time.

They constantly check up on me and started spending even more time with me after I lost my job just to make sure I was okay and never lonely. They were constantly dragging me out of the house to get some fresh air.

It’s really helped me not to dwell on my situation and to try to keep my spirits up.

My friends even send me job posts they come across to try to help me to find a new job!

Watching YouTube

I watch a lot of True Crime and lately I’ve been watching Stephanie Harlowe more than most.

When I’m not watching true crime I watch TopJaw or listen to music via YouTube while I work on some blog posts.

It’s been said that my true crime obsession is worrying but it’s whatever hahaha…

Listening To The Crime Junkie Podcast

Yes, I watch and listen to a lot of crime stuff…

I love listening to Crime Junkie; especially while I’m busy cleaning or washing the dishes. I listen to it on my phone via Spotify.

If you’re into true crime and you haven’t checked it out, you should!

I have also:

Taken A Free Skillshare Course

I’ve taken some free blogging and writing courses on Skillshare.

It was fun and I learnt quite a bit. It definitely helped me to up my blogging game.

To conclude, it’s important to keep yourself busy and stay positive while you’re unemployed.

I’m blessed enough to still have parents that can support me fully financially during this time which makes it a lot easier as my basic needs are all taken care of.
